Exercise 1: Letter to an Artist
"The Grey Hills" by Georgia O'Keeffe
-Have the students write a letter to Georgia O'Keeffe
-Write 2-3 sentences
-Make sure the layout is correct

Why did you paint "The Grey Hills?" I think it is really cool. Why are the colors the way they are? I would like to go there.

Exercise 2: The Script
"The Maids of Honor (Las Meninas)" by Diego Valasquez
-Have the students write dialogue between 2 characters
-There needs to be 3 exchanges
-Can write it from a non-human perspective as well

(blonde hair girl)Emily: I hate this dress
(brown hair girl) Frances: What? I love mine!
Emily: It's big, puffy and I can't move.
Frances: I love the puffy sleeves and how big the dress is.
Emily: Well I hate it and I don't want to ever wear it again.
Frances: Fine! I will wear yours whenever I want!
Exercise 3: Visual Description
"Broadway Boogie Woogie" by Piel Mondrian
-Have the students describe the painting using the "art words" that they know
-3-4 sentences
Ex. of Visual Description
There are several horizontal and vertical lines. There are several geometric squares. There is positive and negative space. The focal point is in the top right and then moves clockwise.
Exercise 4: Poetry (Diamante)
"Agrarian Leader Zapata" by Diego Rivera
-Have the students write a diamante poem about what they see in the picture
-Make sure the students follow the model of a diamante poem
